LOVE CUP 2012 MVP: Kevin McLafferty

Tuesday, Feb. 28 - Semi-Final game 3

Roughnecks 4 vs Hitmen 4 Tie game again sends Necks to the cup. Hitmen left wondering what could have been.

With everything on the line today, Hitmen needed to figure out a way to win. They could not. Never behind, the Big Red Machine nursed one goal leads four different times and with under two minutes, it seemed like they just might do it. With only 1:40 to play, Switzman came off the bench, got behind everyone and put home a rebound to tie the game and extend his team's season.

Congratulations to the Roughnecks for continuing their unlikely, yet impressive winning/tying streak that started in the post season. They have it all together at the best possible time.

Next up is the game to decide it all.

Friday, Feb. 24 - Semi-Final game 2

Roughnecks 4 Hitmen 4 - Wild game yields a tie!

This was an epic battle of two teams who could taste victory. Goal tending was at its best and pressure on all players at its highest. For Krausz's Necks, there was the incentive to get past the powerhouse Hitmen while they have a chance. For Hitmen, it was win or go home embarassed.

A late goal by Hitmen tied this game and kept Hitmen season alive. The five minute extra period saw a quick goal by Switzman that threatened to end this once and for all. Amazingly, Sensei came to the rescue and snuck in to bang home a centring pass with only 23 seconds on the clock.

The drama continues Tuesday at lunch.

This series now has Roughnecks with one win and one tie (3 points) and Hitmen with one tie (1 point).

Game 3 will take place on Tuesday at lunch. The following rules will apply:

  • If Roughnecks win, they win the series.
  • If Roughnecks tie, they win the series.
  • If Hitmen win the series is tied. A sudden death overtime will be played to decide the series.
  • Next game: Tuesday (lunch) Roughnecks vs Hitmen

    Friday, Feb. 24 - Semi-Final game 2

Steamers 4 Choice 3 - Steamers mount a comeback and head to Love Cup.

Steamers scored first in this one, but soon found themselves down 3-1 with only 5 minutes to play. Spirited play by grade 12 phenom Kerr-Keller and feistiness of Holland inspired the 3 Choice goals. Mr. V was looking defeated and all Mr. E could do was cheer from the sidelines.

McLaf's team remembered that they had not lost to Choice this year, and promptly mounted a comeback. Prokipchuk was strong between the Choice pipes, but was ultimately overwhelmed by season-saving goals from McLaf game tying snipe and the game winning backhand through the five hole by Big Tepsich.

With that, the Steamers move on to their 3rd straight Love Cup final.

Congratulations to Choice for a fantastic season.

    Wednesday, Feb. 22 - Semi-Final game 1

Roughnecks 8 Hitmen 2 - Roughnecks shock Hitmen with huge victory.

Hitmen looked confident and angry entering today's game, but it was the Roughnecks who played like they wanted it most. The Roughnecks have done nothing but lose games recently, but this upredictable team dominated all elements of this game. They controlled the ball, had more shots on goal, more creative offensive play, and most of all had absolutely no trouble in the defensive end.

Zee was treated to a game featuring few shots on his net. Fowler, O'Leary, and Sedran were able to, not only relieve any pressure, but consistently set up a scoring chance for their Squad.

Hitmen will have to get serious about penetrating that D and find a better way to score goals. Walker and Cleveland know how to win in this league and will need to draw on their experience. Campney will be looking for answers to keep his first place team alive.

    Tuesday, Feb. 21 - Semi-Final game 1

Steamers 10 Choice 5 - Steamers continue to own Choice.

While Choice scrambled to find a goalie today, the Steamers continued their calm and cool approach. Goose eggs remained on the scoreboard for much of the first half until a cheapie finally crossed the Choice goal line. Who scored it? Who knows - and the Steamers seem not to care about personal point totals this year. In his post game interview, Rhys made a comment about how his squad keeps the game simple, stays back on D and allows the goals to come. And have they ever.

Choice were hindered by having to replace their valuable goalie in a crucial game. Other key lineup gaps left the bench short and ultimately broke their spirits. This talented team will not lie down though. After a tough regular season, Choice have something to prove in this series. They will lay it on the line this Friday.

    Steamers lead series 1 - 0

(See "RULES" page for playoff format)

    Friday, Feb. 10

Steamers 19 Roughnecks 7 - Steamers head to playoffs on a high.

Not many Necks fans remained in the house at the end of this one. The good news for the boys in black is that rookie forward, Saunders, managed a couple points to ensure his spot atop the points leaders. The other good news is that in this league, everyone makes the playoffs.

Ata filled in for Zee admirably today, but too much was going well for the Steamers. Mr. V's glove was quick today as was his rebound control. The Steamers forwards did their thing today and simply abused the twine with a 19 goal effort. Stephen got plenty of practice on his new goal celebrations, one of which featured some sort of rowboat action.

The semi final matchups are set and teams have a week off to gather a strategy.

With the regular season behind us, all that matters now is the cup.

Next game: Tuesday, Feb. 21 at lunch, Choice vs Steamers

    Wednesday, Feb. 8

Hitmen 5 Choice 2 - Hitmen dump Choice to finish season on a winning note.

Rumours were circulating that Hitmen may throw this game. Obviously Campney and his crew had no such plans. Instead they worked their butts off to take down the aggressive Choice squad. It was all business for the Big Red Machine who were clearly uninterested in who they face in the semi-finals.

MacGregor knows a thing or two about RSGCBHL playoffs and it showed today. He had three points and was today's number one star. Walker was active in his own end once again, and his D partner, Sensei, tickled the twine twice.

Choice were in good form today as well, but learned that earning a win these takes a mistake-free effort. Choice plays a physical game as demonstrated by the pairing of McLaughlin and Fletcher. One is big, one is small, but both know how to handle themselves in the corners.

Whoever Choice plays next, the blue and white will need Prokipchuk and his D to play like they did today. They will also need more production from their forwards.

Next game: Friday, Roughnecks vs Steamers

    Tuesday, Feb. 7

Hitmen 6 Roughnecks 4 - Hitmen intensity is back. Roughnecks play well, but are overwhelmed.

Some Hitmen fans might be thinking about who would be the best opponent in the playoffs. The Hitmen just wanted to win this afternoon... and it showed. Captain Campney led the charge today and managed a goal and two helpers to earn the game's first star. His squad followed his lead by fighting for balls in the corners and banging home rebounds. The Hitmen D was impressive today. It featured the usual suspects (Majour, Miller, Ruscitti), but also the return of Walker to the blue line.

The Necks played much better and more focused as the schedule inches closer to the postseason. Miller Jr. is back from injury and contributed a pair. Switzman filled his role of setup man in the offensive zone and Saunders was a threatening presence in front of Garrow. These Necks have not been winning games, but their complete roster gives a lot for opponents to think about.

While the first round playoff match-ups are yet to be determined, all teams would agree that gaining momentum and confidence right now is what really matters.

Next game: Wednesday, Choice vs Hitmen

    Wednesday, Feb. 1

Steamers 4 Roughnecks 3 - Steamers extend win streak to three games.

What does dog sledding mean to you? To the Necks it meant no Zee between the pipes. This fact had Steamer forwards drooling during warm-up. It turned out that backup tender, Ata, made it a non-factor. He came up with several key saves, many of which amongst heavy traffic in his crease.

O'Leary was back in the action today and his cannon shot was instilling fear in bruised Steamer forwards. Robert stayed close to his office today and came up with a goal to help his squad and Alle was effective at controlling the ball along the walls and in the corner.

All that said, the Steamers smell the playoffs coming and, as back-to-back champs, they also know what a cup smells like. Their hunger was the difference today to be sure. Goals came from Enfield sneaking in off the point, and from battles won in the corners and in the neutral zone. As noted in today's interview with Devin, simplicity seems to be a theme for the Steamers and a key to their success.

This puts the Steamers in first but Hitmen have one game in hand. No one knows who they want to face in the first round of the playoffs, but everyone knows that momentum is important.

Next game: Tuesday, Roughnecks vs Hitmen

    Tuesday, Jan. 31

Steamers 10 Choice 3 - Steamers cool off the red-hot Choice.

This game featured two streaking squads, both overflowing with confidence. Perhaps unsure of how to cope with their recent success, Choice got behind early on a lucky goal from the point and were unable to compose their offense. Renewed goalie, Prokipchuck had trouble seeing the ball through the usual blue screen and Choice blue liners had trouble with their break out passing.

McLaughlin and Fletcher were there usual aggressive selves in the corners, but were frustrated by the perseverance of Devin who sacrificed his shins to repeatedly to block shots out of the Choice end. The Choice offense relied heavily on the energy of Kerr-Keller and Stein, but today it was simply not bouncing their way.

Steamers roll towards the playoffs in fine form. They contribute a surprisingly balanced offense that has made them difficult to decode.

With only a few regular season games remaining, nothing seems clear in the RSGCBHL standings.

    Wednesday, Jan. 25

Steamers 6 Hitmen 3 - Steamers bring the energy and put pressure on slipping Hitmen.

The battle of 1st vs 2nd place teams was a battle indeed today. Hitmen needed a win to regain confidence, while the Steamers needed one to inch closer to first place.

The Hitmen got to an early lead thanks to an early snipe by Cleveland. They went up 2-0 and for nearly half the game, it looked like Garrow may earn his second shut-out. Today though the Steamers were not short on energy and hustle. Sparked by the blue line hussle of Fitz & Enfield, the likes of Tommy, Deshponde, and Gordon were able to sustain pressure.

Garrow stayed poised despite some controversial "screening" by some of the Steamers, but in the end had trouble dealing with tremendous and consistent offensive pressure.

The Hitmen get a grueling week off to think about their next move. The Steamers will clash with another high-flying team, Choice.

Next game: Tuesday, Choice vs Steamers

    Tuesday, Jan. 24

Choice 7 Roughnecks 4 - Choice continue to roll. Necks continue their skid.

Prokipchuck took centre stage today in the latest Choice victory. Rebounds are few and far between and he even flashed some leather to rob his rookie counterpart, Robert (check the video). Kerr-Keller supplied the energy and stick handling skill today, as he was more than the Necks could handle. Back In the Crease is Horton, who has had a surprisingly quiet season until today. His top shelf goal on Zee today was an eye-opener.

Roughnecks continue to struggle in many facets of the game including attendance. Today they were buoyed by their QB, Luca and they saw a beauty one-timer snipe courtesy of Ata.

    Next game: Wednesday,Hitmen vs Steamers

    Friday, Jan. 20

Choice 5 Hitmen 4 - Look out league! Choice knock off confident Hitmen.

Choice is no longer worried about losing. They are clearly in attack mode after earning their second straight victory, this one against the league's number one team. Lacking both their captain and a bench, it seemed like a grim beginning to the weekend for Choice. Instead, Choice played inspired hockey. Hawk was impressive today by breaking up dangerous Hitmen rushes and then adding two of his own from beyond the blue line. His blue line partner, Ross was confident with the ball and fierce in the corners. Even veteran forward Walker tasted one of Ross's elbows. Holland played his role as goalie screen and quarterback deep in the Hitmen end.

Aside from Sensei's attempt to score on his own net, Hitmen players are likely not upset at themselves. Walker played tough and sensible on both ends of the floor and Garrow was sucking up all rebounds as usual.

Simply put, Choice came to win today. This may be the new reality of the 2011/2012 season.

Next game: Tuesday, Choice vs Roughnecks

    Wednesday, Jan. 18

Hitmen 4 Steamers 2 - Hitmen overpower Steamers.

After suffering their first loss last week, the Hitmen have safely cast off all doubt by overpowering and out-willing the Steamers. What started out as a defensive battle developed into a a battle of "who wants it more". Today it was most definitely the Hitmen.

Tied 0-0 through the first half of the game, Enfield converted a turnover into a lead. It is hard to imagine any team beating the Hitmen with only one goal though and eventually the likes of MacGregor and Cleveland busted open the flood gates. Garrow came through with some big saves with very few rebounds to speak of. He's like a black hole - balls hit him, but never come back out.

With the Hitmen back on track and Choice surging, there is plenty for fans to talk about.

    Tuesday, Jan. 17

Choice 9 Roughnecks 5 - Same roster, different team. Choice stomps Roughnecks to earn their first win of the season.

Choice made a statement today and the rest of the league better be paying attention. While many wondered about Stein's draft picks and trades this year, he looked like a genius after his squad's effort today. Stein led the charge with 3 markers and a helper, and today he was not without help. Kerr-Keller was all over the floor and the score sheet, Holland was a handful (just ask Krausz), and a revived Knowles played his best game of his young career.

Frustrated for the second straight game, the Roughnecks had some encouraging signs today. Luder had two goals and newcomer, Sproul showed signs of being an offensive force in the league. Despite the loss, Krausz has to be happy with his talent. The next step is to find a way to channel the skill.

    Friday, Jan. 13

Hitmen 9 Roughnecks 7- Hitmen find their offensive groove, Necks wonder where everyone went.

It's pretty hard to win any game with one goalie and only four other players. To make it harder, try making that game a full length Friday game and try having an angry first place Hitmen squad as an opponent. To be fair, the five Roughnecks that showed up came to compete. Switzman (3rd star) opened the scoring and connected with Robert on two others. Zee held his own as usual and Gunter showed much versatility in playing a solid game at forward and defense.

During the first two minutes of the second half, up by a tenuous 2 goals, the Hitmen came alive. Cleveland scored two quick beauties and the Necks seemed to be gasping for air. Walker had his best game of the season scoring two, one of which was an absolute undressing of the helpless Zee. The highlight of the game may have been a non-goal from Walker where he missed high on a shot taken with his stick between his legs. Congratulations also to Majour and Sensei Miller who each blasted goals from the point.

Next game: Tuesday, Choice vs Roughnecks

    Wednesday, Jan. 11

Roughnecks 6 Choice 3 - Roughnecks rough up the winless Choice

Early on, Choice was bringing most of the pressure in this one and it felt as if they would get the monkey off their backs. Zee held strong long enough for the Roughnecks offense to get things together. Once again, the Necks found offense from their blue line in Luca, but also from Mr. Fowler who sniped two on the rookie, Myles.

In a losing cause, Kerr-Keller was fired up today and found the back of the net on a lovely wrap-around. Captain Luke played with both hunger and anger today. After being steamrolled by the opposing captain (Krausz), he added a late goal for his squad.

Roughnecks had no one on their bench today and will need to their roster in order to take down the first place Hitmen this Friday.

Next game: Friday after school, Hitmen vs Roughnecks

    Tuesday, Jan. 9

Steamers 7 Hitmen 4 - Steamers hand the Red Machine its first defeat.

With no one on the bench and a back-up goalie, the Steamers didn't look like much at the opening face-off. In fact, thanks to two early Hitmen goals 2012's first game did not look promising for the captainless Steamers. Buoyed by the continued strong play of goalie/pest, Sansom, and by outstanding production out of the Greene/Deshponde/Gordon line, the Steamers topled the talent-rich Hitmen.

Captain Campney filled in for the league-leading goalie, Garrow, and held his own amongst frequent pressure and frequent hacks. Cleveland was all over the floor as usual, but offensive production out of the usual Hitmen suspects was harder to generate this afternoon.

It was not the prettiest game of the season, but I'm sure the Steamers will enjoy it.

The 8TH ANNUAL HALL OF FAME TOURNAMENT

    Congratulations to the 2011 Immortals!

    SCHEDULE
    Game 1 Legends 8 vs Wannabes 2
    Game 2 Immortals 21 vs Wannabes 3
Championship Immortals 10 vs Legends 4

    Tuesday, Dec. 20

Steamers 6 Choice 2 - Short bench. No problem!

It seems logical that Big Tepsich would be tired after playing 25 minutes straight on a 7-man Steamers squad. If so, he showed no sign of it as he husstled in the corners, picked off long Choice passes at centre, and scheduled two more games later that day.

Undaunted by the absence of key figures, the Steamers rallied to hold off the restored Choice squad. Greene continued his scoring ways and Sansom continued to be a general pain in the you-know-what for the rookie Choice tender, Myles.

Choice has some moments to hang their hats on such as more offense from the headmaster, Stein's usual intensity, and a spectacular end-to-end goal by the promising rookie, Fletcher.

Later: Tuesday after school: Hall of Fame Tournament!

    Friday, Dec. 16

Hitmen 13 Choice 7 - Hitmen hold off surging Choice.

Not exactly what Hitmen had in mind this afternoon, but they certainly held it together for a convincing victory. Choice came ready to upset the heavily favoured men of red, and were behind only a goal thanks to an outstanding first half. Prokipchuck showed some offensive skill and Rostyk seemed fueled by new-found confidence. Choice coaches made a good decision by instructing Kerr Keller to run wild and make things happen.

In the end, Hitmen were simply too powerful. Cleveland had no interest in losing and quaterbacked his offense to 13 goals. Little Tepsich and Walker were small but creative and scarry when near the ball and Garrow was pouncing on everything near his crease. With depth like this, it seems obvious that the Hitmen are the team to beat this year.

Next game: Tuesday at lunch, Choice vs Steamers
Also that day: Tuesday after school: Hall of Fame Tournament!

    Wednesday, Dec. 14

    Steamers 5 Roughnecks 5 - Deadlocked at 5.

After the scoring demonstration in last Friday's mathup, this Steamers-Necks game featured tight defense and carefully constructed offensive schemes. The Necks thew a curve ball by putting Sedran as a forward and the Steamers kept their offensive star, Big Tepsich, on the blue line.

Saunders maintained his furious scoring pace with two more goals including the game's first. Big Tepsich countered with two quick ones and Steamers enjoyed a one goal lead throughout most of this one.

Zee was a monster once again and survived a ferocious final minute of pressure to secure his team another point.

Next game: Friday, Choice vs Hitmen

    Tuesday, Dec. 13

Steamers 10 Choice 3 - Steamers make it two in a row vs Choice!

Both teams managed to get some new names on the stat sheet today. Steamers veteran, Stephen, returned as a forward today and found the back of the net. For Choice, two of their three goals were scored by rookie, Rostyk, for the first two markers of his BHL career. Another happy forward was Headmaster Beatty, who had two helpers in the game and boosted his season point total to 2.

Steamers showed disciplined D today and frustrated the big scoring threats of Ben, Ryan, and Reid. The goalie battle included a Myles on one end and in a surprise move by Choice, a Myles on the other end. When asked whether the goalie switch is to be permanent, Choice front office declined to comment.

Next game: Wednesday, Roughnecks vs Steamers

    Wednesday, Dec. 7

Hitmen 6 Roughnecks 4 - Hitmen new aquisitions frequent the score sheet!

Captain Campney put some clever lines together today in an effort to break in the new Hitmen scoring threats. Hitmen regulars such as Cleveland and Walker controlled play early and throughout. Cleveland continues to play like a captain of the offense and Walker did all he could to score on Zee. Zee was ready for the usual scoring threats, but in the end it was the newly acquired MacGregor and his linemate, Little Tepsich, who put the final nails in the coffin.

Krausz was happy to see the soft hands and offensive creativity of Switzman ( 3 goals) back in the lineup today and allowed Luca to handle the D and set up the offensive rushes.

Kudos also goes to new-comer Elia who scored in his first ever RSGBHL appearance.

Next game: Tuesday, Choice vs Steamers

    Tuesday, Dec. 6

Steamers 10 Choice 5 - Choice's new roster looks good. Steamers pull away at the end.

With the new arrival of Kerr-Keller and Holland Choice was able to keep stay in the battle for a win. In the end Choice was unable to get ahead which would result in a second win for the Steamers. The deciding factor came from Greene who got his first ever BHL goal (and 3 assist). Even with the astounding effort made by Geneen (2 goals) Choice was unable to keep it to a one point game.

Around the eight minute mark the Steamers were able to pull it together with some help from Enfield, Fitzpatrick, and McLafferty. From there on in it would become a guaranteed win for theSteamers. Both Prokipchuk and Sansom (backup goalie) should be commended for their hard work which would cause this to be a great game to watch.

With a bit more practice we will see great things come from Choice and its rookie squad.

Next game: Wednesday, Roughnecks vs Hitmen

    Friday, Dec. 2

Roughnecks 11 Steamers 9 - Roughnecks find the twine early... and often!

It turned out to be a close one, but the short-benched Roughnecks came out ready to lay a beating on the Steamers. This year's number one draft pick, Luca, proved his worth in this one with 4 nifty goals from deep in his end. Clearly the quarterback of his squad, Luca also anchored the defense with fancy footwork and hard work in the gym corners.

Robert also came to play today as he continued to find open floor and juicy rebounds. After losing a scoring threat in Holland, captain Krausz was pleased with his newest acquisition, D. Luder, who gave the Steamers D plenty to handle.

As for the Steamers, there will be plenty to think about over the weekend. Bright spots for the blue team rested mainly in huge offensive and defenisive boost from Mr. Fitz.

    Friday, Dec. 2

Blockbuster trades send tremors through the league!

Trade rumours have been confirmed as of this afternoon. Choice traded Steven's Trophy winner, McGregor and will recieve Hitmen's number one draft pick, Kerr Keller.

Choice also dished Luder to Roughnecks for rookie forward, Holland.

Clearly shaken by Choice's most recent defeat, Stein decided to make moves now rather than risk another shutout. Campney apparently wanted a younger squad in obaining McGregor, who is a serious grade ten scoring threat. Krausz's decision to let go of Holland seems confusing to Roughneck fans, but the Luder name has been good for the red and black in the past.

    Wednesday, Nov. 30

Hitmen 13 Choice 0 - Hitmen unleash fury on the struggling blue and white.

Choice's struggle to get goals was apparent again today. It is still early in the season but if they want to have a chance at the Love Cup they will need to fix inconsistencies soon. For Choice everything seemed to go down hill from the moment the Hitmen were able to get their first goal. Instead of the usual quick back and forward game play we experienced a new style. Although there were fewer turnovers, the opportunities to score were much larger. A seemingly endless barrage of shots came from Raboud, Reid, Bradley and today's first star Cleveland. Prokipchuk's effort was astounding to say the least. Without that determination and skill level it would have been a much different game. Both goalies played amazing games but Garrow was able to keep a perfect GAA leading to the fourth ever R.S.G.C. BHL shutout. Stein seemed to be the playmaker on Choice today but Geneen and Buchanan were unable to finish the shots on net. Today's game gave the Hitmen their third win of the season.

Next game: Friday (3:00pm in the gym),Roughnecks vs Steamers

    Tuesday, Nov. 29

Hitmen 3 Roughnecks 3 - Hitmen offense pours it on. Zee stands his ground!

The Roughnecks and Hitmen’s first game was a goalies battle. Both Zee and Garrow stopped shots one after another holding their team together. The scoring opened with a snipe by Raboud to give the Hitmen the lead but that would not last for long. The Necks soon got on the board with a goal by Miller for his first of his young BHL career. After that the game was neck and neck with shots coming from everywhere. The game would then be tied at 3-3 thanks to a shot by the young Tepsich (check his In The Crease interview!). As the time was ticking down, some unbelievable saves were made by both goalies to stay in the game. With little time left, the Hitmen brought the ball down the gym and there was a scramble in front of the net. Then what looked to be a sure goal was stopped by Holland on the goal line to keep the game at a tie. A shout-out goes to both goalies for playing an amazing game and keeping the game so close the whole way through.

Next game: Wednesday, Choice vs Hitmen

    Wednesday, Nov. 23

Hitmen 6 Steamers 5 - So far so good. Hitmen take the battle of the 1-0s.

From the moment the ball was dropped it was obvious that it was going to be a close one. Steamers and Hitmen were both winners of their first games. It was easy to tell that both goalies were still learning and adapting to the new and faster style of playing. The Hitmen started out with a fast goal by Cleveland that just seemed to slip by Vivares. From there on in it was a quick and well fought game played by both Steamers and Hitmen. The back and forward game style allowed for players like Macallum Tepsich, Tommy Kirby, Alex Cleveland and Harrison Tepsich to prosper. As the game was nearing an end the scoreboard remained 5 - 5. The deciding goal in this game would come from Raboud with less then 30 seconds left on the clock. Both Garrow and Vivares stopped an unbelievable amount of shots, but at this point it is still anyone's season.

Next game: Tuesday, Hitmen vs Roughnecks

    Tuesday, Nov. 22

Roughnecks 12 Choice 4 - Roughnecks take a turn for the better.

After the Roughnecks disappointing loss last week, the team had some things to fix. The Necks seemed like a new team today putting Krausz back on defense and Switzman up front. The game belonged to the Necks right from the start. The Necks came out firing with new lines and more confidence with O’Leary scoring a hat trick early on. More goals followed from Switzman, Dubzak, Saunders and Sedren. But that’s not to say that the scoring was overshadowing Necks goalie Zee who made unbelievable saves only letting in 4 in the end. Choice couldn’t seem to find their chemistry even with snipes from their captain Steinburg. The barrage of shots from the Necks overwhelmed Choice goalie, Propichuck as the Necks found their first win of the season.

Steamers 10 Roughnecks 4 - New look offense goes on the attack!

The start to the new season for last year Love Cup winners was no disappointment. After the Steamers lost their top three scorers from last year, they needed some new players to fill those spots. McLaff’s draft picks brought their A game today along with the captain himself and Devin Gordon. Right from the start the Steamers came out firing, opening the scoring with a tap-in by Gordon. The Necks would soon score but from there on out, it was the Steamers game. Goals coming from McLaff, Fitzpatrick and Kirby would give the Steamers a promising lead, which they would not let go of. Although the Necks would score a few more later on from Saunders and Holland, it would not be enough. Even the amazing effort from Necks goalie Zee, could not stop all the shots coming from the point from Fitzpatrick and Enfield and their sniper forwards

Hitmen 6 Choice 2 - Hitmen show off their new fire power!

The season opener featured a new venue, plenty of new talent, and what seems to be an all new Hitmen attitude. Campney made it clear on draft day that he wants offensive production this year and if today's game is any indicator, it looks like he has it. Right from the ball drop, Hitmen forwards went to work on the confused Choice D and on rookie goalie, Prokipchuk. Early on it was the familar Walker-Cleveland duo hooking up for a pretty goal. Later the new-comers broke onto the score sheet with Big Ruscitti netting one from the point, and Kerr-Killer-Keller finding the twine.

Not to be shut out, Steven's trophy holder MacGregor and his equally nifty line mate Horton managed to spark the Choice offense with a couple of beauties.

Kudos also goes to the Choice goalie, Prokipchuk who made an uncountable number of saves in a losing effort.
