Tentative title of story_____________________________________

  • Evaluation of mechanics of story (consider grammar and diction). What needs to be fixed?
  • Evaluate formatting. How does the story look on the page? Is Dialogue offset? Is there a variety of paragraph length?
  • Is the diction and “word-smithing” lively enough? Is it possible to add more vivid language using senses? Can sentence structure be given more variety?
  • How effective is the Point of View? This storyís effectiveness hinges on a clear point of viewóthis is actually the most important character in the piece. Is it clear and consistent?
  • How effective is the link between point of view and the story (Magi or Traveler). The story should not be laboriously retold in your essay, but the link needs to be clear. Hint at a number of elements directly drawn from the original story.
  • Once again, the conclusion in this kind of essay is a challenge. The best route to go is an offering of advice (misguided as it may be) or action of some kind. How effective is the draftís conclusion and does it maintain the characterís of point of view.

From the two short editorials please suggest three improvements for each.
You do not need to re-write the entire editorial, but put yourself in the role of general editor and strengthen the proof and pursuasiveness of the piece. You may also suggest alterations in message for clarity if you beleive the piece requires more focus.
You should write as if you are sending a message to the writer to suggest alterations.
